Ensuring an Accurate Blood Test Result

Blood Testing During Your TRT Programme

Benefits of testosterone replacement therapy Urban TRT IrelandRegular blood tests are an integral part of your testosterone replacement programme with Urban TRT Ireland.  All blood tests, including your initial diagnostic test and confirmatory second test, will be carried out by a venous blood draw.  This is a quick process whereby blood is collected from a vein in your arm for testing.  You can choose to have this done at a nearby clinic or arrange a home visit from a qualified phlebotomy nurse, depending on your preference.

Timing of Blood Tests

To ensure the most reliable and consistent results, blood samples should be taken between 8am and 11am, ideally on a day when you are not receiving testosterone treatment.  This timing aligns with your body’s natural hormone rhythms and helps avoid misleading readings.

Guidelines For Ensuring Accurate Results

Please carefully follow all instructions provided by our medical team and clinic representatives relating to your blood testing appointment.

We recommend the following ahead of your test for best results:

  • Avoid ejaculation, sexual activity, and strenuous exercise (particularly cycling) for at least 48 hours prior to your test, as these can temporarily raise PSA levels and distort results.
  • Stay well hydrated by drinking 500ml to 1 litre of water in the hours before your test. Good hydration improves blood flow, making the draw quicker and easier.
  • Trough testing is vital for accurate hormone tracking.  This means that your blood test should be taken to measure the lowest level of testosterone in the body before your next does.  When on a TRT programme, your follow-up blood draw should be booked for just before your next testosterone injection. Testing too soon after an injection may cause elevated testosterone or oestrogen readings that don’t reflect your average levels.

Please note that if a blood test fails because these guidelines have not been followed, we’ll offer a one-time complimentary retest. Any additional retests will require the purchase of both the test and a clinic or home visit.
