Frequently Asked Questions

Can younger men suffer with low testosterone?

«

Yes, while it’s true that testosterone levels gradually decline with age, low testosterone can affect men at any stage of life.

Contributing factors such as stress, poor nutrition, limited physical activity, excess alcohol as well as underlying medical conditions can lead to reduced testosterone even in younger men. TRT can help restore hormonal balance and enhance quality of life, whatever age you start treatment.

How can I get a testosterone blood test in Ireland?

«

If you're living in the Republic of Ireland and you're worried that your testosterone levels might be low, you can book an at-home testosterone blood test through Urban TRT Ireland.

Our experienced doctors can review your results with you and advise you and on next steps to help you get back to feeling your best.

What are the symptoms of low testosterone?

«

Low testosterone levels in men can cause a wide range of symptoms, which may affect physical, mental, emotional, and sexual health.  Common signs include lack of energy, reduced muscle mass, low libido, erectile dysfunction and anxiety.

Take a look at our comprehensive list of the symptoms of low testosterone, and our ADAM questionnaire, to find out more.   A simple testosterone blood-test will then help you start on your journey to feeling better.

Symptoms of low testosterone in women typically include fatigue, weight gain, especially an increase in belly fat, decreased sex drive, vaginal dryness, thinning hair, loss of strength and more.

Can I get TRT in Ireland from the HSE?

«

Yes it is possible, under some circumstances, to access TRT from the HSE in Ireland.  When you book an appointment to discuss possible low testosterone levels with your GP, they will first carry out tests to rule out any other causes for your symptoms.  These can include stress, depression, poor diet, lack of exercise, excess alcohol, smoking and more.

If it is concluded that your symptoms are possibly caused by late-onset hypogonadism, you may be sent for additional blood tests. The threshold for qualifying for a diagnosis of low testosterone via the HSE is likely to be far lower than at a private clinic (diagnosis on the NHS in the UK requires a total testosterone level of as low as 8.6 nmol/L for total testosterone).  In professional experience, men can begin to suffer symptoms such as low energy and reduced sex drive even at levels as high as 15 nmol/L - well above the typical clinical thresholds for diagnosis.

While TRT is available through the HSEl, the process can be lengthy and difficult to navigate. Waiting times for testing are reported to be several months and by the time treatment begins, your symptoms may have already had a significant impact on your quality of life.

By contrast, Urban TRT Ireland offers a faster, far more personalised alternative. Book a convenient at-home blood test today, and one of our fully qualified TRT specialists will follow up with a treatment plan tailored to your individual needs.
